Let's talk about self talk

Fouzia Draoua • 12 novembre 2023

When we engage in positive self-talk, we activate areas of the brain associated with reward and motivation, leading to the release of neurotransmitters that promote feelings of well-being and self-worth. Conversely, negative self-talk can activate the brain's stress response, leading to increased cortisol levels and potentially contributing to a negative cycle of self-doubt and low self-esteem.

Paying attention to self-talk is crucial because it directly influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Neuroscience indicates that the brain has the remarkable ability to adapt and rewire itself based on the information it receives. By monitoring and adjusting self-talk, individuals can consciously influence their brain's neural pathways and reframe their perspectives, fostering a more positive self-image and boosting self-esteem.

Self-talk allows individuals to identify and challenge negative thought patterns, or to promote a more optimistic and empowered mindset.

By cultivating positive self-talk, we promote emotional resilience and foster a healthier sense of self.
